Throwing away my first plan for Quayutec

When the idea outgrows the prototype, rewrite the plan. Make the old work earn its place.

Throwing away my first plan was the best thing I did for my side project.

I'm building something called Quayutec in my own time, with AI agents doing most of the building. Twice a week I'll share the building story here: the design choices, the mistakes, and what they taught me. What it is can wait.

So, the first lesson.

My first version was built for a smaller idea.

Then the idea grew. I could have kept patching the old version until it fit.

I didn't.

I wrote a new plan from scratch. It replaced every earlier document. The old code stopped being a head start.

In the plan's own words, it was "not a constraint."

Anything from it that stayed had to earn its place in the new build.

It felt wasteful at first. With AI agents, though, rebuilding is the cheap part.

Keeping a foundation built for the wrong idea is what gets expensive, because every new piece has to bend around it.

When the idea outgrows the prototype, rewrite the plan. Make the old work earn its place.
